In my freshman year of college I took a black and white film class. I had some experience with film at that point but it wasn’t until this class that I really fell in love with the process. Even before I began shooting in film I liked the look of film photography and would often edit my digital photos to look like film. The sometimes grainy, and vintage look of it is an aspect I like to use towards my advantage, and I think it can enhance the photos depending on how you shoot. Not only do I like the look of film, but I really enjoy the development process, especially the trial and error aspect of it. It’s a unique opportunity and a privilege to have access to a dark room, and one that I’ve been lucky enough to experience. The semester I had this class was during a bad time in my life so being able to leave that and just be in the dark room, listen to music, and focus on my work was something I really valued.
